First i want to thank my wife for supporting me on all my crazy ass ideas, but it's not like she could say no, cause i mean its a Man's world you know what i mean (just kidding babe)!!!.
Ok, so i went to Ikea and saw this cool TV setup which had a couple of panels and it looked pretty great but it was really expensive, more or less around the range of 100 to 800 bucks for the high end stuff. The main idea was to hide all those cables exposed once the tv is mounted on a wall.
After browsing the internet and getting some ideas i decided to do it myself and here is the step by step.
First i had to choose materials, i was thinking about some nice plastic panels or even laminate flooring. As you can see the image on the right, this looks pretty clean but is also worth a pretty penny, so i decided for the latter.
There were a couple of images from the web that inspired me to choose laminate flooring, mostly for their texture and also they are very inexpensive to buy. So after many nights of sleeping on it, i gave it my best shot.
The first thing i did was to figure out how to make the frame for the laminate to be attached. i decided to buy 1x4, 1x2 and simpson "L" brackets in order to attach these to the wall studs. the total amount for these items was about 12 dollars at Home Depot, so far so good.
I made a grid with the lumber, then i started to look for laminate. There are many choices which you can have, and i decided to choose the medium dark tone for my wall.
So here are the images.
After a couple of hours, i had the completed wall, now all i need is a bigger TV, this wall panel was designed for a 55" LCD. Once i have it on the wall, I will update the post.
Keep in mind that this framing is not designed to hold a big screen tv, it is mainly for attaching the panels.
Anyways, if you like it or need extra info i am more than happy to oblige.
